Redefining Airborne Communication

Today, in the business world, communication is key. Previously, airborne communication involved high costs and was available on only a few airlines. Knowing a change was needed, Aircell built a network that redefines airborne communication. This new, affordable, high-speed Internet service, branded Gogo, enables passengers to stay connected and recapture lost time.

Our Technology

Aircell is currently building a network of wireless antenna sites across the U.S. to seamlessly link airplanes to the Internet. A Wi-Fi hot spot in the cabin allows your passenger’s to connect to this high-speed link, send and receive emails, chat, browse the web, and enjoy a host of other web based services.

Aircell broadband uses available off-the-shelf wireless technologies to keep down costs and reduce the need for expensive onboard equipment. By 2008, your passenger’s will be able to access the Internet from their personal Wi-Fi devices anywhere in the continental U.S. through an air-to-ground link. Negotiations are currently underway for expansion into Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean Islands.

How It Works

To put it simply, the service is based on an established telecommunications technology called CDMA EVDO. This system is already in use by several ground based wireless carriers. The service will feature speeds similar to DSL and access is gained through a Wi-Fi hotspot in the cabin. In the future, the service will include GSM enabled mobile devices.
