Summary: 

The primary function of the EVDO Network Support Engineer is to serve as a Subject Matter Expert in the support of AirCell’s Network Operations Center (NOC) and Data Center (DSC) teams to resolve issues in the 3G wireless network. This individual will be part of a team of engineers responsible for providing expert third-level technical assistance to AirCell personnel, technology vendors to Aircell, and customer personnel. Aircell and its technologies are unique, hence the ability and desire to learn new things is critical. Position Description: This individual will be part of a team of engineers responsible for providing expert third-level technical assistance to both AirCell and customer personnel. The individual is expected to provide support that is complex in nature, and requires considerable judgment, initiative, and specialized technical knowledge to resolve problems and/or develop recommended solutions. This individual will interact with AirCell’s Engineering team and its network technology and services vendors, as required, to resolve problems. The primary mission of this individual will be to ensure that passengers have uninterrupted access to the internet by ensuring that network failures are addressed promptly and effectively. Working knowledge of troubleshooting issues in 3G radio networks and IP backhaul networks is a must.

Responsibilities: 

• In response to calls for assistance from first or second level technical support engineers, provide expert assistance in evaluating, diagnosing, isolating, and repairing network faults and issues. Support and conduct troubleshooting efforts to resolve issues as they occur.

• Lead or assist with network outage recovery efforts. Develop work-arounds to problems, where possible.

• Document symptoms and solutions to issues by creating and/or contributing technical content to case logs. • Work with AirCell engineers and 3rd party vendors to arrive at permanent solutions to network issues.

• Analyze the details of failures to determine root cause(s)

Required Skills: 

4 or more years of directly related experience in the design and/or troubleshooting of 3G radio networks, especially EVDO data networks, is required, including:

• Extensive experience with EVDO Rev. A system functionality, expansion, and troubleshooting. (Experience with EVDO products from ZTE Corp a significant plus.)

• Working knowledge of all common EVDO RAN network elements, including OMC, BSC, BTS, AAA, and PDSN.

• Direct experience with Change Management, Fault Management, and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) features and functionality of 3G radio networks.

• Understanding of, and hands-on experience with, IP backhaul architectures and technologies

• Excellent written and verbal communications skills

• Working knowledge of local area wireless networking architectures, technology, and standards, including 802.11a,b,g,n a plus.

• CCNA, CCNP, or other Cisco certifications a definite plus.

• Solid knowledge of LINUX/UNIX a plus

• Working knowledge of shells (Bourne, K, C), Perl and/or Visual Basic 6 a definite plus.

Required Education: 

BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
